I'm Jo Chou, based in Vancouver. I am curious & empathetic loving to explore unknown user-centered problems. enjoy crafting remarkable design experiences across front-end & native apps.
My most recent work was with Canada Post, where I designed service features for the native mobile app, including the onboarding process for registration, social advertising, and analytics reporting. These efforts helped enhance social marketing needs and optimize user engagement on iOS and Android. Working in a fast-growing environment taught me how to collaborate efficiently with the team and balance business needs, design, and development processes.
In addition, I have over 5 years of design experience in creating complex B2C and B2B SaaS solutions across frontend and mobile platforms. I have worked on diverse products, including account management platforms, dashboard designs, onboarding management, payment systems, and purchasing & selling systems. These experiences have empowered me to become a more thoughtful and critical designer, allowing my expertise to align seamlessly with business requirements and contribute to their growth.
I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Interactive Arts & Technology (also known as UX design) from Simon Fraser University. I’m always curious about studying user behaviors and personalities—whether it’s MBTI, horoscopes, or astrology—understanding how people think, act, and why. I’m lucky that my interests align with my career, which is why I’m so dedicated to delivering creative design solutions.
I love exploring the world by traveling to different cities, discovering cultural differences that inspire my design thinking and help me adapt to diverse challenges. I’m an outdoor person who enjoys snowboarding, biking, and camping, and I’m also a movie lover who likes to unwind with good food. I guess that’s how I balance my work and life!

FAQs
What is UX Design to you?
UX means deeply empathizing with users to understand their real-life pain points and needs. It’s about solving problems by designing not just visually appealing interfaces but ensuring each interaction is seamless, intuitive, and purposeful. It’s focused on creating meaningful experiences that motivate user engagement. Equally important is aligning these designs with business objectives, so that the final product is both user-friendly and strategically effective in meeting the company’s goals.
How do you measure a successful design?
To measure design success, I focus on gathering positive user feedback from usability tests, analyzing key metrics like user interaction, conversion rates, and task completion rates, and aligning the design with business goals such as boosting purchase rates or improving retention. By collaborating with the team and refining the design based on insights, I ensure the end product not only delivers an intuitive and seamless user experience but also contributes to achieving strategic business objectives.
How do you balance the process in design and development?
I prioritize clear communication and collaboration with the development team early on. By involving developers during the design phase, I gather technical insights and constraints, ensuring the designs are feasible and align with implementation capabilities. I focus on iterative feedback, breaking down the project into smaller milestones, and conducting regular check-ins to address any potential issues. This helps in maintaining a smooth workflow, minimizing revisions, and delivering a product that meets both design expectations and technical requirements.
How do you face a design challenge?
When facing a design challenge with a conflict or disagreement, I first focus on active listening to understand the other person’s perspective. I believe in addressing the issue with empathy and asking clarifying questions to pinpoint the core concern. Then, I present my rationale with data, user feedback, or research to support my design decisions. If the disagreement persists, I collaborate with the team to explore alternative solutions and run tests or gather user input to make an informed, objective decision that aligns with our project goals.
